OUR STORY

“AKONG” started life in 2010 as Akong London — the eponymous jewellery house of designer, Nicole Akong. Its iconic jewellery collections won Nicole several “rising talent” accolades, including from Vogue Italia, the Evening Standard and International Jewellery London.  AKONG’s collections were bought by some of the world's most renowned stores, including ASOS, Harvey Nichols and Anthropologie; featured regularly in major fashion magazines, including Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and Grazia; published in two books; seen on various television shows; and famously worn by one of the world's biggest fashion icons, Amal Clooney.

After spending 7 years in the fashion industry, Nicole took a break from designing jewellery collections and turned her passion for making beyond the boundaries of jewellery. Having re-connected with her childhood love of sewing, her creations now combine her flair for embellishment with her love of clothing and accessories. She made her tv debut in the highly-anticipated 6th series of the BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee, where her flair for distinctive design and colour won her a coveted place in the Final.

House of Akong is the space that houses all of Nicole's creations across jewellery and fashion, along with her online courses and workshops. While she often designs according to themed collections, these are more fluid than finite, with pieces being added to the collections over time. Where pieces can be made available to order, they will be added to our shop. However, many of Nicole's other works are one-of-a kind due to the nature of their construction and material availability. Nicole also runs occasional studio de-stash sales and wardrobe sales here on the website.

Nicole is passionate about raising human consciousness around fashion by supporting others on their journey from Consumers to Creators, so that they are empowered to make more and buy less. To support her mission, Nicole hosts a series of online courses, workshops and talks, to pass on all the skills and knowledge gained over her 10 prolific years as a designer and maker in the fashion business. She also makes her patterns and materials available wherever possible so her signature designs can be recreated, by you, at home.
